ART Procurement
In the previous Phase II call I developed 2 painting concepts specifically for University Health that were meant to be painting sketch views of what the paintings could be if they were chosen, to then later be developed further at twice the size. Those 2 painting sketches were not chosen, but I still really loved the concept ideas behind each and more importantly how that looked. So I continued to develop these oil paintings over the six months since then, and they have become beautiful artworks with beautiful intentions behind them. The visuals, colors and even the titles for each were developed with the hospital environment in mind. The thinking behind each takes into consideration the Patient, the Guests and the Hospital staff.
In my first painting The Ritual of a Longhorn and a Blue Jay, the main element is a field of flowers and grasses with many colors. A Longhorn Cow is standing in this field along with a Blue Jay somewhat hidden on a rock, looking in the general direction of each other. The scene leaves you to wonder, was the field recently filled with animals, or are more about to enter? If you were in that field, would you hear the sounds of a breeze blowing through the grasses with an occasional bird song? Do the Longhorn and Blue Jay even notice each other? Has this been a ritual where they meet here at this time everyday?
In my second painting Understanding this Beautiful Life, there is a field of grasses and flowers filled with many colors. Two bicycles are parked in the grass along with an open journal with a pencil resting on it. We can’t see what is in the bike’s basket. The painting has enough details that it could have many storylines weaving in and out of many timelines. Where are these 2 people now? Are they ok? Are they exploring nature? Are they having a picnic? Are they friends, or a couple, or relatives? Are they researching for a fantastic project to help understand the beauties of life? And what is in that journal?
I am submitting a total of 10 artworks for this 2026 University Health SaludArte: Art of Healing Phase III Art Procurement. Each painting is thoughtfully chosen with the hospital environment in mind.
Thank You
Christopher James Kull
