Americans in 1885 – Montreal. These 2 influential Americans, Sitting Bull & Buffalo Bill, are seen here in an 1885 photo shoot together in Montreal Canada. Perhaps as a lesson or reminder for the future of the United States that there is growth and peacefulness in accepting the coexistence of different cultures and people, as these 2 men made an attempt to do.

Artwork Proposal

I was thinking about the artwork for the Buffalo Bills Highmark Stadium from the perspective that the NFL season lasts close to 6 months, with a maximum of 10 home games. So I tried developing art that speaks not only to Football, but more to the building, the Buffalo Bills and the location.

Researching the name for the Buffalo Bills reveals a fascinating history that starts with changing its name based on a contest. Named after the one of a kind William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody. He was born to an Ontario Father and a New Jersey Mother, Buffalo Bill fought in the American Civil War, killed 4,282 Buffalo as food for the Kansas Pacific Railroad, and fought in the Indian War. Native Americans were his enemy, but later became his friend and fellow Americans. He acted on stage in Chicago and years later started and performed in Buffalo Bills Wild West that toured the USA, Canada and Europe and lasted for 30 years. He eventually became an advocate for Native Americans rights, Women’s rights, was against Slavery, and was for the conservation of buffalo. His history is complex and amazing. His connection to American History, to Canada, to Sports and Entertainment is remarkable.

Working on this proposal was a joy, and a learning experience. Researching and exploring various concepts helped me better see and understand the USA.
